Residents Awoken By Noisy Work On Railway
Written by HFM News on 9th March 2022
Residents have been awoken in the middle of the night by loud banging from the railway in Market Harborough and Little Bowden.
The noise is coming from pile-driving, which is taking place as part of work to electrify the tracks.
People living on the Southern Estate, some distance from the railway, are among those who have been woken up in the early hours, many not knowing what the noise was.
Others have reported their dogs barking because of it.
The piles are being vibrated into the ground and struck with a pilling hammer, until the required depth is reached.
They will support masts which are being installed to carry overhead wires.

Gavin Crook, Principal Programme Sponsor for Network Rail’s East Midlands route said: “We are continuing to electrify the line between Market Harborough and Kettering, so that we can run faster, greener, and more reliable trains for passengers in the East Midlands.
“Unfortunately, this does require some noisy work and to keep our people safe, we need to do most of this at night while there are no trains running.
“I’m sorry for any disturbance this has caused for people living in Market Harborough and would encourage them to contact our helpline with any questions or concerns.”
Network Rail say notification letters were sent to over 2,500 addresses within a 500m radius of the railway last month and a live event took place in December to let people know about the upcoming work
