Reform UK Set To Lead LCC

Reform UK is set to rule Leicestershire County Council after other parties ruled out forming any kind of coalition.

Reform secured 25 seats at last week’s election but just fell short of securing a majority, meaning no political party has overall control of the authority.

However, the party is now expected to continue into the new council term as a minority ruling party, after the Conservatives confirmed they will become a ‘strong opposition’.

The Tories, who had run the council for nearly a quarter of a century, saw their share of seats plummet from 42 to 15, while the Liberal Democrats secured 11 seats, Labour took two and there was one each for Green and an independent.

Leicestershire’s Liberal Democrat group, which secured 11 seat, has also confirmed it is not willing to join forces with Reform UK.

Reform’s Harrison Fowler was elected as the new county councillor for the Bruntingthorpe division in the Harborough district.
