Reassurance Over Covid-19 Vaccine Roll-Out
Written by HFM News on 8th December 2020
There is reassurance supplies of the new Covid-19 vaccine are coming to Leicestershire, after the county’s hospitals were not on the list of the first 50 in the country to get them.
NHS England say stocks of the Pfizer-BionTech jab, which started to be administered for the first time today, will be delivered to hospitals and GP surgeries.
There are also plans to set-up larger community-based vaccination hubs, and although details are yet to be released, one is likely to be at Leicester Racecourse in Oadby.
Harborough MP Neil O’Brien told Hfm there is no need for people to be concerned:
The first people to receive the vaccine will be those aged 80 and over, care home workers and some health service staff.
A spokesperson for NHS England and NHS Improvement in the Midlands told Hfm: “The NHS will begin vaccinating patients against coronavirus this week at dozens of hospital hubs around the country, including in the midlands, with Leicester’s hospital hub expected to be on line and ready to vaccinate shortly, which will be complemented by local vaccination services provided by GP surgeries.”
