Praise For How Developers Protected & Restored Memorial Portico

Developers are being praised for the way have protected and restored Market Harborough’s World War One Memorial Portico.
It was the only part of the former Cottage Hospital not to be demolished, instead incorporated into a new 70-bedroom care home, which has now opened on Coventry Road.
The portico, a Grade II listed-structure, features marble panels with the names of over 1,600 local people from the Market Harborough area who served in the First World War, with red crosses beside the 254 who lost their lives.
John Morley, President of the Market Harborough branch of the Royal British Legion, spoke to Hfm:
Great care was taken to protect the Portico during the building work.
