Police Prepare for Car Meet Following Illegal Racing on A6

Leicestershire Police are aware of plans for a car meet in the county tomorrow evening.

It comes after illegal street racing on the A6 between Kibworth and Great Glen on Tuesday night, when a large crowd gathered.

Sergeant Pete Jelbert from Market Harborough’s neighbourhood policing team told HFM that plans are in place to respond to any repeat incidents:

Two people were issued warnings for anti-social driving after police attended the A6 on Tuesday, and officers have appealed for dashcam footage showing any driving offences.

Meanwhile, Cllr Phil King has renewed calls for action to tackle the issue on the A6 bypass and has written to the Police and Crime Commissioner, Rupert Matthews, urging stronger and sustained enforcement.

He said: “This has been going on for over two years. While there have been periods of enforcement, the behaviour continues. The A6 is a key route through our area, but it is not a racetrack. Residents should not have to endure repeated disturbance or feel unsafe because of irresponsible driving.”

“Short term action is not enough if the activity simply returns weeks later. What residents want is consistent enforcement and a clear deterrent strategy.”
