Plans To Cut New Intake Numbers

Welland Park Academy wants to reduce the number of new pupils it accepts.

The Market Harborough school is proposing to admit 180 pupils to Year 7 from September 2020 – instead of 210.

It follows a site review that has concluded the safe accommodation and effective teaching of students would be jeopardised if the number isn’t lowered.

Leicestershire County Council say even with the new homes planned for Harborough over the next few years, there will still be sufficient places for children from feeder primary schools at Welland Park and Robert Smyth Academy, if the move goes ahead.

A public consultation on the proposal is running for six weeks before a final decision is taken.
