Plan For New Primary School In Kibworth ‘Approved In Principle’
Written by HFM News on 24th February 2021
Plans for a new primary school in Kibworth have been approved in principle by the Department of Education.
The application to create the so-called ‘free school’ was submitted by the Discovery Schools Academy Trust, who say it will help to deal with the increasing demand for primary places in the area.
Kibworth Primary School, part of the Trust, is continuously over-subscribed.
If the final go-ahead is given, the school is set to open in September 2023, at a location to be announced, and cater for up to 420 pupils, including provision for pre-school and children with autistic spectrum conditions.
It will be named “Cibbaeus” derived from “Cybba”, thought to be a legendary ancient Celtic King, after whom ‘Kibworth’ is named and featured in the 2010 BBC documentary, “The Story of England”.
Free schools are directly funded by the government, and Leicestershire County Council is fully supporting the idea.
Paul Stone, Trust Leader of Discovery Trust spoke to Hfm about the plan:
There are 13-member schools of Discovery Trust, including Kibworth Primary School and Farndon Fields Primary School in Market Harborough
