Plan For New Waste Depot Near Great Bowden Progresses

Plans for a new multi-million pound waste depot near Great Bowden have gone out to public consultation.
Harborough District Council is seeking feedback on proposals for the base on Welham Lane, next to the A6.
The facility would be used to store refuse lorries and other operational vehicles, but would not process or transfer waste.
How the depot would look
The consultation is open until Friday, with residents and businesses encouraged to share their views.
The proposed depot forms part of a wider scheme linked to land at Tin House Farm, which the council acquired in 2025.
While part of the site will be used for rewilding and environmental projects, the depot would allow the council to operate waste and recycling services from its own base, rather than relying on leased facilities.
Council officials say this would help secure services for the long term and could generate savings when waste contracts are renewed in 2027/28.
Earlier estimates suggested a full depot could cost around £10 million, but revised plans for a smaller facility are now expected to cost around £3.5 million, with a planning application set to be submitted shortly.
