A new Aldi store in Market Harborough is a step closer after a planning application was handed in.

The discount supermarket giant wants to spend £5m building it at the corner of Rockingham Road and Gores Lane, along with a 129-space car park.

If given the go-ahead, the 1,315-sqm store will replace the firm’s existing supermarket on Springfield Street, and create 15 additonal jobs.

An Aldi spokesperson said: “This multi-million pound investment will rejuvenate a brownfield site off Rockingham Road and transform it into a high-quality community facility.

“If approved, the new store would replace Aldi’s existing store on Springfield Street, providing customers in the town with a more spacious and modern retail environment to complete their shopping.”

The planning application for the site, currently used by Glenmere Timber, is expected to be considered by Harborough District Council with six months.

Aldi hope to open the new store by 2024.
