Overnight A14 Closures Planned for Months of Roadworks

Written by on 23rd June 2026

A 20-mile stretch of the A14 through the HFM region is due to be closed overnight for the rest of this week as major improvement works get underway.

The eastbound carriageway between junction 2 at Kelmarsh and junction 8 at Kettering will be shut nightly from 8pm until 6am.

Next week, the westbound side of the same stretch will close, with further phases of work planned through August and September.

National Highways says the scheme includes drainage renewal, vegetation clearance, safety barrier repairs and street lighting replacement.

It has apologised for the inconvenience the closures will cause drivers and says diversions will be signposted.

The planned closures are:

  • 22–27 June: eastbound full closure (junctions 2–8) with westbound lane closure
  • 29 June–7 July: westbound full closure with eastbound lane closure
  • 27 July–22 August: eastbound full closure (junctions 2–8) with westbound lane closure
  • 24 August–30 September: westbound full closure with eastbound lane closure
  • 40mph speed limits on eastbound (27 July–9 September) and westbound (6 August–23 September)
