Over 5,500 People Have Their Say On Tip Closure Plans

Written by on 25th January 2024

Over 5,500 people have had their say on controversial plans to close three tips, including the site in Market Harborough.

Leicestershire County Council will now analyse comments made by residents during a 12-week public consultation, which ended yesterday.

The Recycling and Household Waste Site on Riverside could close as soon as October if the cost-saving proposals are approved, meaning people from the town would have to travel to the tip in Kibworth to dump rubbish.

Various concerns have been raised over the closure plan, including fears of an increase in fly-tipping and traffic worries with more vehicles needing access to the Kibworth site off the A6.

The council, which would save around £400,000 if the plans went ahead, is yet to confirm when a final decision will be made.
