Leicestershire Police say it is ‘very disappointing’ 173 people were arrested for drink or drug driving during their winter campaign.

Seven drivers failed roadside breath tests in the Harborough District, including in Market Harborough, West Langton, Kibworth and South Kilworth.

The clampdown ran for just over a month after launching to coincide with the World Cup and saw 24 more arrests compared with last December.

129 arrests were made for drink driving, 36 people were found under the influence of drugs and 8 drivers failed to provide specimens for officers.

150 men and 23 women were arrested, with 36 taken into custody at the scene of collisions and 28 arrests made between 6am and 2pm.

The highest roadside breath test was over four times the legal limit.

Those charged face driving bans, fines and points on their licences.

Jonathan Clarkson, spokesperson for the Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland Road Safety Partnership, spoke to HFM:

Northamptonshire Police arrested 147 people during their six-week campaign, which ran until January 2nd.
