‘No Plans’ For Hosepipe Ban Across HFM Region

Written by on 9th August 2022

Water companies serving the HFM region say there are still no plans to bring in hosepipe bans despite the extreme dry period continuing.

However, both Severn Trent and Anglian Water are urging people to do all they can to conserve water, like having a quick shower instead of a bath.

Bans are already in place in other areas of the country.

Severn Trent Water, which provides supplies to Leicestershire, say the region only saw 67% of the rainfall usually expected between April and June.

A spokesperson told HFM: “There hasn’t been a hosepipe ban in our region for more than 27 years, since 1995. But as we do every year, we will continue to monitor reservoir levels and demand for water closely.

“We’d like to thank all of our customers for their support in being mindful about non-essential water use as the warm and dry weather continues into the summer.”

A spokesperson for Anglian Water, which serves Northamptonshire, said: “We operate in the driest region in the country, so conserving water and protecting against drought is what we do every day.

“Currently our reservoir levels are stable, at around 80pc full. Our underground aquifers are in reasonable shape too, at around average or just below average for the time of year.

“One of the reasons Anglian Water can be so confident there won’t be a hosepipe ban this year is because it’s invested millions to reduce leakage, and it’s now the best performing water company in the UK for low leakage levels.”
