Harborough’s new Council Leader wants to restore people’s faith in democracy.
Cllr Phil King, who was chosen for the role by fellow Conservatives earlier this week, has told Hfm issues like controversial new housing schemes being given the go-ahead, have bridged a gap between the Council and communities:
Cllr King also wants to forge better links between new and existing communities where housing development has taken place, and has pledged to look at any alternative options presented in relation to Leicestershire’s Strategic Growth Plan.
It would see 38,000 homes built and an Expressway road built around the south of Leicester, passing close to several villages in the Harborough District, which is causing concern:
Harborough District Council endorsed the Strategic Growth Plan in principle in 2017 along with the county’s six other district councils, Leicester City Council and Leicestershire County council.
