New Concerns Over Kibworth Pollution

Written by on 11th April 2019

New concerns are being expressed about air pollution in Kibworth after a study claimed traffic pollution could be linked to 1 in 5 new cases of childhood asthma in the UK.

It found exposure to nitrogen dioxide, caused by vehicle fumes, appears to be a “substantial” risk factor.

Levels on a section of the A6 Leicester Road are consistently breaching national health guidelines and Harborough Council last year declared an Air quality Management Area there.

The area was recently ranked 4th on a list of 71 parts of the East Midlands where air quality standards are being breached.

Jenny Bates, from Friends Of The Earth, spoke to Hfm:

Last month, new real-time monitoring equipment was installed to provide more accurate data on the scale of the problem as attempts are made to try and mitigate the issue.
