A multi-agency meeting is being arranged to investigate suspected pollution on a new housing estate in Market Harborough.

People living on The Hawthorns estate off Northampton Road have reported foul smells and concerns about a pond and nearby drainage ditches.

The meeting has been organised following representations from Harborough MP Neil O’Brien, who was contacted by concerned residents:

The Environment Agency has agreed to attend a site meeting near the Leicestershire/Northamptonshire border alongside Harborough District Council and West Northamptonshire Council to discuss the issue, establish responsibility and determine what action may be required.

David Page, Portfolio Holder for Neighbourhood Services at Harborough District Council, said: “Residents have been raising concerns about this issue for a considerable period of time and it is right that the Environment Agency, West Northamptonshire Council and Harborough District Council are now coming together to establish exactly what is happening and who is responsible for putting it right.

“Whilst this meeting is a positive step forward, what residents ultimately want is a solution. We will continue working with all parties involved until that happens.”
