MPs Meet Chancellor In Bid To Avert Cuts To Services Across Leicestershire

Leicestershire’s Conservative MP’s have called for fairer funding as the County Council prepares to announce cuts to services.
The group, including Harborough MP Neil O’Brien, met Chancellor Jeremy Hunt to urge him to review the government funding given to the authority, which is the worst funded in the country.

The County Council is set to see a budget gap of £28m next year, which could rise to £140 by 2026, with bus services and road repairs among areas which could see cuts.
A Government spokesperson said: “This year we have made available an additional £3.7 billion to councils to ensure vital public services are protected, including an extra £30.3 million for Leicestershire County Council.
“At the Autumn Statement, we also announced a further £6.5 billion will be made available for local government to deliver core services in 2023/24 and 2024/25.”
