‘Miracle’ As Stolen Silverware Returned To Church

A church in Desborough that had all of its silverware stolen earlier this week has got it back after it was found dumped in a carrier bag.

St Giles Church was targeted by burglars for the second time in two weeks on Sunday night, with the precious items dating back to Medieval times. taken from the safe, together with cash.

David Reay discovered them in a field near his house on Tuesday morning and returned them to the delight of church leaders, who have described it as ‘a mircle’.

The silverware is now being kept at another secure location and extra security measures, including CCTV are being planned for the church.

The intruders caused extensive damage to the front and rear doors of the historic building on Lower Street to get in – police are appealing for witnesses.
