Men Admit Damaging Floral Displays In Market Harborough

Two men have claimed responsibility for wrecking floral displays in Market Harborough and paid for the damage.

They handed themselves into Police yesterday and admitted tipping over planters in the town centre late on Tuesday night.

The men, aged 19 and 22, have now written letters of apology to Harborough in Bloom volunteers and paid them £130.

Police, who say both were ‘very remorseful’ had been reviewing CCTV to identify who was responsible.

The men were dealt with by means of ‘Restorative Justice,’ so were not arrested.

Inspector Jim Purdie said: “This incident not only affected the residents and people who worked hard putting together the flower beds that were damaged, it also affected local officers.

“We work incredibly hard to keep everyone safe and took this crime personally – if you are thinking of committing crime or anti-social behaviour please be assured we will work quickly to identify you as we have demonstrated in recent weeks.”

A representative from Harborough in Bloom said they were delighted at the speed with which the matter had been resolved.
