Mass Opposition Over Plan To Axe Bus Service

Written by on 20th July 2018

Just under 200 people have responded to consultation over plans to axe Market Harborough’s town bus service.

A further 3,000 have signed petitions calling for the number 33 to be saved.

Leicestershire County Council says it received 196 responses from people in Market Harborough and is now reviewing them.

Bosses say the comments will be taken into account before a final decision on the future of the service is taken in the autumn.

The authority fully subsidises the service, but is proposing to remove that as part of a bid to save cash, meaning the route would most likely be axed next year.

Liberal Democat councilors – who launched the petition – will present it in the coming weeks.

People who use the bus say they’d be unable to easily get into town if it stopped running.
