Market Harborough’s Halifax Bank To Close
Written by HFM News on 23rd June 2021
Market Harborough’s Halifax bank is to close.
It is one of 44 Halifax and Lloyds Bank branches to be shut across the country.
The decision by Lloyds Banking Group is being blamed on more people switching to on-line banking.
The group’s Retail Director, Vim Maru, said there had been considerably fewer transactions at the branches in the last five years, saying: “Like many businesses on the high street, we must change for a future where branches will be used in a different way, and visited less often.”
The branch on The Square will shut its doors between September and November, although the company says there will be no compulsory redundancies.
The Unite union has said the decision is a ‘bitter blow’ to staff and customers.
