Market Harborough Charity Awarded £240K To Launch New Project

A Market Harborough charity that supports young families has been awarded £240,000 to launch a new project.
Home-Start South Leicestershire will use the grant from the National Lottery Community Fund to run ‘Play-Full Families’ over the next three years.
Staff will team up with six primary schools to help families of children who have faced difficult experiences or circumstances, through a range of therapeutic play techniques.

The Project Coordinators, Becky and Katy, will help individual children in the school setting, work with the wider family at home after school with the support of Home-Start volunteers, and help schools to further the skills and experience within their staff teams to continue and extend the school-based work of the project.
A spokesperson for Home-Start said: “Families can face long-term or sudden challenges in their lives ranging from financial crises affecting income and housing security, mental or physical ill health, or bereavement and loss.
“Children can feel the impact of these challenges keenly. Relationships in families can become strained and children’s emotional well-being can be affected with a risk that difficulties become entrenched, affecting their learning and development and potentially their future opportunities.”
More volunteers are needed to help with the new project and will receive full training to give them the tools they need to help local children and families, with the next course starting on Tuesday 13th September.
