Market Harborough Becomes First ‘Compassionate Town’ In East Midlands

Written by on 22nd April 2021

Market Harborough has become the first ‘Compassionate Town’ in the East Midlands.

The Loros Hospice has teamed up with the Market Harborough & Bowdens Charity to create the status, which will build on the great community-spirit seen throughout the pandemic.

People are being asked to become a ‘Compassionate Neighbour’ or ‘Compassionate Friend’ as part of it, to help prevent isolation and loneliness.

Hundreds of sunflowers will also be planted across the town to highlight the status.

Dan Smeeton from Loros told Hfm’s Nick Shaw more about the project:

The Loros shop window in Market Harborough is highlighting the campaign

LOROS will be offering free training to members of the community to create a network of ‘Compassionate Friends’ and ‘Compassionate Neighbours’, with the training sessions teaching volunteers useful communication and body language skills to help them handle tricky conversations and give them the confidence and tools needed to help others in everyday life.

Monica Winfield, who lives near Market Harborough is a volunteer and Ambassador for Loros and told Hfm’s Nick Shaw the town is ideal for such an initiative:
