Major Planting Scheme Launches In Husbands Bosworth

Volunteers aim to plant 6,000 trees in Husbands Bosworth over the next three days.
The project at the southern boundary of the Gliding Centre on Sibbertoft Road is aimed at increasing bio-diversity and reducing potential flooding.
The hedging whips will create over 1,000 yards of hedgerow in a project led by the Harborough Woodland Community, supported by the centre and Councils.

A spokesperson for the Gliding Centre said: “As well as assisting in reducing the potential flooding in the area the hedge will over time support a wide range of small mammals, birds, amphibians and insects contributing to the diversity of species in the county, which has the second-lowest woodland cover in the UK.
“The hedgerow will also be more attractive than the existing post and wire fence.
“It will be trimmed annually to allow the public to continue to view the gliders from the roadway.”
