Major Clean-Up After Travellers Leave Site

Written by on 23rd July 2020

Travellers have left a site in Market Harborough after being served with an eviction notice.

The group moved from the land near a new housing estate, off Wellington Place on the Airfield Farm Development last night, after being illegally camped there for a week.

A major clean-up is now getting underway after rubbish and human excrement was left, and the area is being fenced off by landowners in a bid to prevent trespassing happening again.

The eviction notice was served yesterday afternoon.

A spokesman for the consortium of landowners who own the land told Hfm:

“The consortium takes its responsibilities very seriously and instructed a High Court Bailiff to serve notice on the illegal traveller site, giving them until 8am today to vacate the site.

“A team of contractors will secure the site and commence a clear up operation – including mobilising the services of specialist contractors experienced in dealing with the detrimental environmental impact of the aftermath of an illegal traveller site.

“The consortium will then reinstate the land, returning it to its former natural, pristine condition.

“We have been and will continue to work with Harborough District Council, Leicestershire County Council, the Multi Agency Travellers Unit and the Police to ensure we deliver the high quality open spaces our master plan calls for, although in a manner more robustly protected from now on.”
