Maintenance Work Begins On Historic Canal Bridge In Foxton
Written by HFM News on 14th February 2022
Maintenance work has begun on the historic swing bridge over the canal in Foxton.
The Canal and River Trust needs to improve the tracks and mechanism of the historic structure on Swingbridge Street, to make it easier to operate.
The road is closed to traffic this week, while the work takes place.
A spokesman for the Trust told Hfm: “The works are to improve the tracks and wheel mechanism of the bridge to make it easier to operate.
“Over time, and with rainfall, the tracks can get clogged up with debris making it difficult to move the bridge.
“These works will improve the mechanism and also include some adjustments to the drainage within the bridge to prevent further clogging.”
