Lubenham Scarecrow Festival Cancelled For Second Year

Written by on 23rd April 2021

The Lubenham Scarecrow Festival has been cancelled for a second year, because of uncertainty surrounding the pandemic.

Organisers have been unable to ensure they could secure permission for the two-day event in September, or the insurance they need.

Usually thousands of visitors attend the popular festival, which has been held in the village for the past 20 years.

Organisers say they have taken the decision ‘with heavy hearts’ – Chairman of the organising committee, Jim Burbidge, said: “The village loves to put on this sunny event, but the pandemic continues to cast a deep shadow over it, as it does on so many parts of our lives.”

“We’re sad that we won’t be seeing the hundreds of fantastic scarecrows the residents of Lubenham create to delight us.

“We’re sad that we won’t be able to welcome the thousands of families that come to fill the streets in every normal year. We’re sad that we won’t be able to raise the funds that do so much to help deserving causes in the village.”

“But we will be back in 2022 and we look forward to welcoming everyone with a smile next year.”

The announcement comes a day after Harborough District Council confirmed the Classic Car Show in Market Harborough will not be going ahead this summer.
