The Harborough District’s new Local Plan was adopted at a Council meeting last night.

It details where new homes, business units and amenities will go between now and 2031.

Land for just under 4,000 new homes are identified in it, in addition to those which have already received planning permission, including 1,078 in Market Harborough, 1,200 north of Scraptoft and the same number in Lutterworth, 130 in Fleckney and between 10 and 30 in some other villages.

The adoption of the plan means the Council will be in a much stronger position to refuse planning application for homes in areas not identified in it.

Councillors praised the public for their input, throughout the process, which has helped shape the Plan.

Norman Proudfoot, Joint Chief Executive at Harborough District Council, said: “We are delighted to reach this milestone; the Local Plan will positively manage development in a sustainable way, whilst protecting heritage and the countryside across the district. The planned growth and infrastructure, set out in the Local Plan, will help the local economy to prosper and ensure the Harborough district remains one of the best places in the country in which to live and work.”
