Local Government Shake-Up Proposal

Plans have been announced for a massive shake-up of local politics that would see Harborough Council and seven other district authorities scrapped and an entirely new one formed.
Senior Conservatives at Leicestershire County Council have announced plans to move to a single unitary status to serve the whole county.
They say the move would be the only way to deal with massive government funding cuts and would save the tax-payer at least £30m a year.
