Lighting Issues Delay Unveiling Of Market Harborough Sculpture

A new sculpture in Market Harborough has been left behind a fence for more than three months because its lighting is still not working.
The three-metre-tall steel artwork is at Friendship Park on Northampton Road and is designed to be lit up after dark.
The sculpture features friendship-themed words and phrases, which are designed to be projected onto the park’s pathways by sunlight during the day and by lighting at night once complete.

Issues with a lighting connection are being blamed for the delay to the official unveiling of a new sculpture in Market Harborough
Harborough District Council says “outstanding technical and administrative matters” relating to the lighting connection are responsible for the delay.
A spokesperson told HFM it is “working to resolve the issues” before the sculpture can be officially unveiled and the fencing removed.
The £10,000 installation was funded by the council’s environmental contractor FCC Environment, which helped create the park on Northampton Road last year.
Meanwhile, plans for a statue of Thomas Cook in the park are progressing, as a nod to his links with Market Harborough and the town’s place in the history of organised travel.
The council says it has been in contact with the sculptor and the spokesperson said: “Discussions are ongoing; however, a timescale for the commencement of the work has not yet been confirmed.”
