Drink & Drug Drive Clampdown launches

Police are calling on people to ‘get tough’ with drink and drug drivers as they today launch their festive clampdown.

Last December over 150 drivers were arrested on Leicestershire’s roads – a 56% on the year before – with one driver found to be over six times the legal drink drive limit in a Harborough village.

There was a hard-hitting launch to the campaign at the St George’s Retail Park in Leicester, with officers using a hearse with a coffin in.

Officers, who will be carrying out more routine stop checks, want people to report those they know regularly drive under the influence of drink or drugs.

Sergeant Steve Lewin from the Road Policing Unit told Hfm that can be done by calling Police or Crimestoppers:
