Last Ditch Call To Protect Residents’ Rights Over Planning Matters
Written by HFM News on 30th September 2021
Harborough District Council has issued a last ditch call for the rights of residents to be protected if changes are made to the planning system.
Government proposals could see some housing developments automatically approved without giving people the right to object or make comments.
The authority has already expressed concerns and will raise them again in a letter to Michael Gove, the new Secretary of State for planning, who is expected to decide soon whether or not to push ahead with the move, as part of the government’s ‘Planning for the Future’ white paper.
Councillors voted unanimously at a meeting this week to write to Mr Gove and the area’s MPs, after backing a motion put forward by Cllr Phil Knowles, Leader of the Opposition.
