Last Chance To Comment On Cost-Saving Plans To Dim Streetlights
Written by HFM News on 3rd August 2023
It is the last day for people across Harborough to have their say on plans to dim streetlights.
The County Council wants to reduce lighting levels to 30% after 8pm across Leicestershire, to save around £500,000 in electricity costs over the next four years.
There are concerns the move could lead to more road traffic collisions and pedestrians feeling less safe.

Cuts to streetlighting are proposed
The council says majority of the residential street lighting provision dims to 30% at 10pm and visiting a residential street after 10pm will help give residents an understanding of what this lower lighting level looks like.
A public consultation ends at midnight and Councillor Ozzy O’Shea, cabinet member for highways and transport, said: “I would encourage people to respond to the questionnaire.
“We’re also going to work closely with the emergency services so that light levels also reflect the characteristics of a particular area.”
