Land at Naseby Square sold

Harborough District Council has announced that the land it owns at
Naseby Square in Market Harborough has been sold for £1.4m to Platform
Housing Group.

The Council decided not to pursue the housing project itself, as
originally planned, because it had to “refocus its priorities” in the
wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

It says the capital raised from the sale can now be used to support the
authority’s various capital projects across the Harborough District.

Nevertheless, the Council says the sale will still deliver one of its
key priorities in the town – affordable housing.

The new development will comprise 38 one to three bedroomed homes –
which will be a mix of rented and shared ownership – and are aimed to
help local families find a place to live within their budget.

The scheme will include 8 bungalows for rent – which it’s hoped will be
attractive to older people or those with a physical disability.

Former residents have already been relocated, and Platform Housing Group
will now demolish the existing bungalows off Stuart Road and amalgamate
the plot with adjoining land it already owns.
