A couple from Kibworth delivered their own Christmas baby with the help of three Police officers.
Mum, Jade Poutney and Dad, Sam Castledine welcomed their firstborn son Freddie to the world five days early, after realising there wasn’t enough time to get to the hospital.

Immediately after Jade gave birth, Sam ran out of their flat for help, flagging down PC Ryan Holden, who was passing in a police car.
He was soon joined by fellow Market Harborough-based officers, PC James Day and PC Steve Winn.
The bobbies took control of a phone conversation with East Midlands Ambulance Service to successfully tie-off Freddie’s umbilical cord and make sure there was no excessive bleeding, before wrapping him a blanket.
They also supported mum Jade, who was in some shock, by keeping her warm and encouraging her to keep calm until an ambulance crew arrived to takeover.
Jade and Sam say they ‘can’t thank the officers enough for their help’ following Freddie’s birth on December 27th, with mother and baby doing well.

The officers have since returned to give the new family flowers and a card.
PC Steve Winn spoke to Hfm about the ‘career first’ for him and his colleagues:
