Kettering Borough Council Set To Act On Climate Change

With UK temperatures soaring to unprecedented levels this week, another
council in the HFM area looks set to take decisive action on Climate
Change at its meeting tonight.

Independent Councillor Jim Hakewill and Labour Councillor Anne Lee will
be moving and seconding a Motion to declare a “climate emergency” in the
area covered by Kettering Borough Council.

In a joint statement they said: “Climate change is the defining issue of
our time and we are at a defining moment. Without drastic action today,
adapting to the impacts of climate change in the future will be more
difficult, costly and – at worst – too late for our children and
grandchildren.”

It goes on to say that they fully expect a unanimous vote this evening
to approve this motion “which sets aside party politics in favour of our
future”.

If passed, the authority will join Northamptonshire and Leicestershire
County Councils – along with Harborough District Council – who’ve all
approved similar motions during the past three months.”
