An investigation is underway after a fire damaged two homes on the Wellington Place estate in Market Harborough.

Fire crews were called to Carroll Street just before 4pm yesterday after a blaze broke out at a house involving solar panels.

The fire spread from the first floor and roof of the property to an adjoining home, prompting a major response from Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service.

At its height, firefighters from Market Harborough, Wigston, Birstall, Central, Eastern and Southern fire stations attended the scene, supported by an aerial ladder platform.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus initially tackled the blaze from inside the building before being forced to withdraw due to concerns about the stability of the structure.

Part of the roof collapsed during the incident and crews reported an unstable gable end, meaning firefighting operations had to continue externally.

Nearby residents were advised to keep their windows and doors closed while emergency services dealt with the fire.

Thankfully, all occupants were accounted for and no injuries were reported.

The fire was brought under control shortly after 7pm, with firefighters carrying out damping-down operations before returning later in the evening for further inspections. Another inspection is scheduled to take place today.

Fire investigators are working to establish what caused the solar panels to catch fire.

Cadent gas engineers also attended to isolate the gas supply, while electricity engineers were also called to the scene.
