Hundreds Offer Homes To Refugees From Ukraine

People from across the Harborough District are among around 500 in Leicestershire to have offered space in their homes for refugees from Ukraine.

They have registered for the Government’s Home for Ukraine scheme, which will bring individuals and families to the UK who have fled the war in the country.

Organisations including Councils, the NHS and Police are now working together to plan how best to support people who will arrive here.

Cllr Phil King, Leader of Harborough District Council and Chair of the District Leaders’ Group, said: “Leicestershire District Councils are absolutely committed to supporting the people of Ukraine who have had their lives turned upside down.

“We will be ensuring that the accommodation that sponsors provide is suitable for our Ukrainian guests and working with partners to ensure families and children receive the support they need and are welcomed into our communities.”

A new ‘welcome point’ has opened this week at East Midlands Airport to meet Ukrainians when they arrive in the East Midlands.
