Villagers Poke Fun At ‘Kibworth Pond’ Saga

Villagers have poked fun at rail bosses for delays in dealing with flooding approaching a footbridge in Kibworth.

The issue has been on-going since the new Grammar School  bridge opened off School Road in April, with deep water gathering each time it rains.

Someone has placed a sign and flag beside the puddle, likening it to the seaside, while others have taken to social media to joke about the situation.

Work is finally set to take place later this month to deal with the problem, which has been a constant annoyance to pedestrians using the popular route, including many schoolchildren.

Local councillors and Harborough MP Neil O’Brien have also been pushing for action to deal with the area, nicknamed the new Kibworth pond.

Villagers have taken to social media to joke about the situation

A Network Rail spokesperson said: “We are sorry about the continued issues the drainage at Grammar School bridge is causing for the village.

“We can confirm that work is due to begin on 14 October to fix the drainage issue and we estimate that this will take approximately 2 weeks.

“We would like to thank everyone for their continued patience as we work with Leicestershire County Council to rectify the issue.”

Councillor Ozzy O’Shea, county council cabinet member for flooding, said: “We’re pleased to support Network Rail in their work to address the drainage issue which came to light as the result of the footpath being raised as part of the work which the rail company carried out when the bridge was constructed.”
