Teenagers Apologise & Clean Up Graffiti After Market Harborough Vandalism

Two teenagers who sprayed graffiti across Market Harborough town centre have apologised and helped to remove it.

Lewis Morley, 18 and his friend, 17, spent yesterday cleaning up the daubings – some of which were offensive and racist – after Lewis’s mother publicly identified them as being responsible.

The pair targeted vehicles, buildings and pathways during the early hours of Monday morning, with much of the vandalism centred around the Commons Car Park.

Harborough District Council removed offensive messages from public property on Monday, before the teenagers returned to clean up graffiti elsewhere in the town. They also visited a number of businesses to personally apologise to owners affected by the damage.

Lewis’s mother, Sam Morley, told HFM she was appalled by the boys’ actions and felt it was important they took responsibility for what they had done.

She said the clean-up was intended to show there are consequences for such behaviour and hopes both teenagers have learnt a valuable lesson:

The vandalism also affected several vehicles, including a vintage car belonging to a visitor to the town.

Ms Morley said she has spoken to the owner of one of the damaged vehicles to arrange payment for cleaning costs and is working with police regarding compensation for the owners of other cars that were targeted.

Both teenagers are due to attend a voluntary police interview as officers consider what further action may be taken.
