The area has been cordoned off while the hole is assessed and necessary repairs planned.
A county council spokesperson told HFM: “Initial investigations show that the collapse of part of the carriageway in Station Road, Lutterworth is likely to have been caused by an issue with the sewer.
“Severn Trent is responsible for carrying out the repair works to the sewer and is currently assessing the issue.
“Leicestershire County Council has placed barriers around the hole and issued an emergency road closure notice, which will be in place until Severn Trent has carried out further investigation, along with any repair works.
“We will continue to work closely with Severn Trent until the works have been completed.”
