Lutterworth Pub To Re-Open After Devastating Fire

A historic pub in Lutterworth will re-open tomorrow after a devastating fire left it shut for over a year.
The Shambles in Bell Street has been re-built and completely refurbished after the blaze last February wrecked the thatched roof and caused damage throughout the 16th-century building.

The pub’s face-lift has modernised its interior and exterior, while preserving its history as a grade II listed building and was carried out by owners Marston’s.
Landlords George and Denise East will be back behind the bar alongside Denise’s daughter Stacey Castle, who is the new manager.

The community rallied around to support them after the blaze which was started by a chimney fire, with owners of the near-by Greyhound Coaching Inn providing temporary accommodation and £4,000 donated to an on-line fundraiser set up by family friend Nathan Green.
Ahead of the re-opening, an invitation-only event is being held tonight for local dignitaries, fellow town landlords, family and friends – along with firefighters who helped put out the blaze.
Stacey spoke to HFM about how it feels to be opening the doors again and the support they have received from the town since the blaze:
Opening day will include live music from 7.30pm by the local band One for the Road, and Stacey’s 15-year-old daughter, Zara, will be performing some of the songs with them.
