Harborough On ‘Wish List’ For New M&S Food Store

Market Harborough is on a ‘wish list’ of locations where Marks and Spencer would like to open a new food store.
The retailer says it would consider taking on an existing shop unit or look at a new-build, if a suitable premises or site can be found.
It previously had a ‘Simply Food’ store in the town’s Commons Car Park, but it closed over ten years ago.

M&S is currently undertaking its ‘store rotation programme’, which looks to reduce the number of ‘full line’ stores from 247 to 180 by 2028 and open 104 more Simply Food shops.
According to a document seen by HFM, the retailer would be looking for edge-of-town or ‘out of centre’ locations, close to a major road with easy access.
One potential location could be the current Aldi premises on Kettering Road in Market Harborough, which will become vacant next year, when the discount retailer relocates to new premises currently being constructed on Rockingham Road.
Lutterworth and Kettering are also included on M&S’s list of over 100 potential sites outside of London where it would like to open new food stores.
