Harborough Man From Ukraine Fears For Safety Of His Family

A Ukrainian man from Market Harborough is fearing for the safety of his family in the country.

Oleksii is in regular contact with his two brothers, who joined the Ukrainian army to help fight against the invasion by Russia, and his father, who lives in a village now under Russian control.

One of his brothers has no military experience.

Oleksii’s home city of Chernihiv, in the north of the country between Russia/Belarus and Kyiv, has suffered increased shelling and bombing targeting civilians.

Oleksii, who moved to England ten years ago and has lived in Harborough for two years, is married to Naomi who is British, and their children attend a local school.

He is getting messages from his brothers on the front-line, which he is then relaying to friends and family in Ukraine, and is urging NATO to impose a ‘no-fly’ zone over the country, to stop the aerial bombardment.

Oleksii and his family are being supported by St Dionysius Church in Market Harborough and he will be travelling to the Ukraine-Poland border later this month to deliver aid.

He is asking for various items – Sleeping bags · Tents · Camping mats · Bottles of water (5 litre) · Non-Perishable food eg: pasta/rice, tins (with ring pulls) · Nappies/wipes · Toothpaste/toothbrushes · Sanitary products · Antibacterial wipes · Bandages

Items can be dropped off at St Dionysius Church or after Sunday services at the town’s other Anglican churches.

Oleksii will be travelling on Friday 11th March so please donate any items by Wednesday March 9th.

Currently he is going to take these items in his car, but is appealing to anyone who could support him with access to a van and for his travel.
