The Harborough and Wigston Neighbourhood Policing Area has a new commander.

Inspector Liz Perry, who has personal connections to the area, has taken over from Inspector Jim Purdie, who had held the position since last June.

Insp Liz Perry is taking over from Insp Jim Purdie

Insp Perry has spent time in detective and uniform roles since joining Leicestershire Police in 2008 – the latter as a detective sergeant based in Market Harborough.

She said: “I am really looking forward to taking on this new role. I know the area of Market Harborough particularly well having worked there previously and having personal connections to the area.

“The neighbourhood teams across Wigston and Harborough do a fantastic job so I am looking forward to getting out with the teams and hearing from those who live and work in the communities about the issues they face and where they feel police can help support.”

Alongside her role, Insp Perry also sits on the force’s Women’s Inclusive Network committee and is part of a team of police officers and staff who are dedicated to supporting colleagues at work and highlighting the positive contribution women make to the police service.

Leaving behind a role he has enjoyed since last year; Insp Purdie will now be working in the force’s training academy – helping to prepare new recruits for life as an officer.

He said: “I have thoroughly enjoyed my time as NPA commander, and I wish Liz all the best as she takes over the role. During my time in Harborough and Wigston I have enjoyed working with partners, tackling crime and anti-social behaviour and developing the policing response and resources.”
