Harborough District To House Afghan Families
Written by HFM News on 18th August 2021
Preparations are being made for two vulnerable families from Afghanistan to be housed in the Harborough District.
The District Council had already been working on securing suitable properties for them, prior to today’s announcement Britain will re-settle 20,000 Afgans in the coming years, following the Taliban taking control of the country.
The initial scheme the Council agreed to be part of is providing housing for 5,000 families of people who supported the UK during the time troops were in the country.
The authority is working with housing associations in the District with a view of securing suitable accommodation for the two families and will also show its support to the latest government re-settlement plan.
Council Leader Phil King spoke to Hfm:
Families from Syria have previously been housed in the District as part of a government re-settlement scheme.
