Harborough District Council Approves Tax Rise

Harborough District Council has approved a rise in Council Tax.
From April, the charge for its element of bills will increase by £5 for a Band D property, taking the yearly amount to just under £173.
The authority’s budget was approved by councillors last night.
It includes investment totalling over £26m over the next few years, including building a new cemetery in Market Harborough and £700,000 being made available for a ‘Platinum Jubilee Community Capital Fund’.
The fund will allow local organisations to bid for funding to help secure or develop significant capital assets, across the district, as a lasting commemoration of Her Majesty The Queen’s historic 70 year milestone.
Leicestershire County Council, whose charges make up the majority of bills, agreed a 3% increase in its share of council tax this week; and residents will pay £10 more a year for Policing.
