Green Bin Collections Suspended Due To Staff Shortage

Written by on 23rd November 2021

Green bins won’t be emptied across Harborough this week due to an on-going staff shortage.

A number of workers at the District Council’s contractor, FCC Environment, are off sick, including five drivers who have Covid-19.

The Council has apologised to people who subscribe to the garden waste collection service.

A message on the council’s website reads: “Unfortunately, despite all our efforts we cannot deliver the green waste service this week (w/c 22 Nov 2021).

“This is due to having 5 drivers off with Covid-19, we cannot source any agency drivers due to the national drivers’ shortage and have exhausted all other options. Therefore, our main priority is to maintain the black bin and blue-lid recycling collections.

“We will be constantly reviewing the situation as to whether we can resume collections next week, and aim to offer an additional collection to make up for the one missed this week.

“Please ensure that you do not present your green bin this week as it will not be collected.

“We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.”
