GP Practices Merge

Written by on 9th April 2019

Two local GP practices have merged today.

The Two Shires Medical Practice, with bases in Market Harborough, Kibworth and Fleckney has joined forces with Kibworth Medical Centre, which also has a surgery in Fleckney.

Doctors say the move will increase patient choice, provide additional services and extended treatment hours.

All the current surgeries will remain open for the time-being, although in the future the practices could move to a single site in both Kibworth and Fleckney.

Some people who responded to consultation about the merger last year raised concerns it will be harder to see a GP and they may have to travel to other surgeries to get an appointment, although 72% of patients who responded were in favour of the merger.

Dr Choudhury, Senior Partner at Kibworth Medical Centre said: “The support we received from our patients in favour of our proposed merger was really encouraging. It demonstrated to us that our patients understand the benefits of a merger and the need for change.

“The merger will now offer patients more choice in how and where they access GP services.”

Dr Hardman, Senior Partner at Two Shires Medical Practice added: “We would like to thank our patients and stakeholders for taking part in the consultation. We are committed to engaging with our patients and taking on board their comments. The merger will be a very positive step forward for our patients and ensures sustainability for the future.”
