Go-Ahead Recommended For New Aldi Store In Market Harborough

Written by on 21st February 2023

The go-ahead for a new Aldi store in Market Harborough could be given next week.

Planning officers at Harborough District Council are recommending councillors grant planning permission for the £5m development on Rockingham Road.

The discount retailer wants to relocate from its current base on Springfield Street so it can have a bigger store, creating 15 additional jobs.

Aldi also wants to build seven business starter-units on part of the site at the Gores Lane junction, currently occupied by Glenmere Timber Company, along with a 129-space car park.

Rival supermarket Waitrose is objecting to the plan, saying it would reduce shopper trips into the town centre, while over 130 letters from people supporting it were generated via Aldi’s on-line consultation.

The council’s planning committee will consider the application.
